As a movie obsessor, of course I’m watching the 97th Annual Oscars tonight! So many great movies have been created and so many are up for nominations… and so many not-so-great movies have also been created and nominated. Today, I’m listing my predictions and then we’ll check back in on the actual winners.

Note: these are my realistic predictions, and not my opinions. (My opinion, if needed, will be in parentheses next to it)

Best Picture: The Brutalist (only because people see length as an incredible factor – I think Wicked was amazing and impacted the world more)

Leading Actor: Timothee Chalamet for A Complete Unknown

Supporting Actor: Kieran Culkin for A Real Pain

Leading Actress: Cynthia Erivo for Wicked (I can also see it being Karla Sofia Gascon)

Supporting Actress: Ariana Grande for Wicked (she did amazing in this role, her comedic timing was incredible! Probably my favorite character.)

Best Animated Feature Film: The Wild Robot (I will be upset if Inside Out 2 wins…)

Best Animated Short Film: In the Shadow of Cypress

Achievement in Cinematography: Nosferatu

Achievement in Costume Design: Wicked

Achievement in Directing: Coralie Fargeat for The Substance

Best Documentary Feature Film: Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat

Best Documentary Short Film: The Only Girl in the Orchestra

Achievement in Film Editing: David Jancso for The Brutalist

Best International Feature Film: Emelia Perez, France

Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling: Nosferatu (but I do hope they call out Wicked instead!)

Original Song: Never Too Late, Elton John

Achievement in Production Design: Wicked

Best Live Action Short Film: The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent

Achievement in Sound: Dune: Part 2 (I will actually be upset if Wicked wins this, I do not think it was spectacular by any means and actually think some of the choices they made, like having a grand pause and wind whoosh to silence in Defying Gravity was a bad choice!!)

Achievement in Visual Effects: Dune: Part 2

Writing, Adapted Screenplay: Nickel Boys (LOVED this movie, will probably review so I will save my thoughts, though I can see A Complete Unknown winning as well)

Writing, Original Screenplay: The Substance

*Note that I haven’t seen all of these movies! But I hear the talk, and I notice trends in what the academy seems to like, as well as my opinions on the movies I have seen.

Good luck to all (and all the movie watchers who endure the Oscars with me), and we’ll check back in tomorrow!
