This Valentine’s Day I saw the newest slasher Heart Eyes starring baddie Olivia Holt and hottie Mason Gooding. I must say I was really surprised by this movie! It brought me back to 90s slashers like Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Urban Legend.
I loved the look of the heart eyes killer. He had such a cool mask with glowing heart eyes, a bow and arrow weapon, and he was so menacing. This film was a mix of rom-com and horror and it meshed so well together.
There were so many scenes where I was gut laughing in the theatre, especially the scene in which our central characters first meet the heart eyes killer (Iykyk). This movie wouldn’t be a slasher if there weren’t any kills and boy there was a lot of bloodshed. The make-up effects and special effects were so good in this movie. There were a few kills in particular where I was literally squirming in my seat.
Our main characters Ally and Jay were so well written. Their chemistry was so cute and I loved their character arcs. I really want to see more of Olivia Holt in this genre because she absolutely slayed in this and Totally Killer.
I am actually shocked that I am not hearing a lot of discourse on this film because it was so solid and better then a lot of the horror films coming out nowadays. This movie was also so on brand for Valentine’s Day. It really encaptures the holiday so well. I truly think this movie is one of my new favorite slashers to come out in recent years. I highly recommend you check it out while it is still in theatres!
