For any fan of Britney Spears you must watch her 2002 hit Crossroads. It of course stars the legendary miss Britney Spears, along with Zoe Saldaña, and Taryn Manning. The film follows three childhood best friends who drift apart up until graduation night. The three girls take part in a cross-country road trip and rediscover their friendship.
This movie was such a fun and cute watch. I know if this came out when I was 18 it would have changed my life. It has really fun and touching sequences for girlhood and friendship. It also gets unexpectedly deep and sad.
Britney Spears was actually a really good actress in this movie, and it is a shame she wasn’t in more films after this. With that being said the three actresses worked really well together, they actually came across as real besties.
This isn’t a movie you go into expecting Oscar worthy moments, but it does leave you with a feeling of being young and dumb. It also makes you want to call your besties up and plan a cross-country roadtrip.
I also really loved the inclusion of Briney singing her hit songs such as I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman and Overprotected. She of course slays through every number and has an iconic outfit to match.
My only complaint for the movie is that the character Ben, played by Anson Mount. He played too big of a role in this movie. It should have just been the girlies on this trip, but instead we had this man child love interest for Britney as the driver. He wasn’t the worst, but he would have been much better suited as a side character.
As you can already tell I absolutely loved this movie, and I can’t believe how long it has taken me to come around and actually watch it. I don’t think it will be for everyone, but if you love Britney Spears and coming-of-age girl power movies I think you will really enjoy it.
I give this movie ★★★½/★★★★★
(You can watch this movie on Netflix)
