I love horror movies so I am not easily scared when I watch them. So it got me thinking about what movies and scenes scared me the most. With that I compiled a list of movie moments that really freaked me out! I will include a link to the scene as well so you can poop your pants like I did watching these scenes.
10. The Conjuring 2 – The Nun Pays a Visit
I remember I saw this movie and theatres and this scene alone made me jump out of my seat. The image of this haunting nun at the end of the hallway gives me chills each time I see it. The pacing is so well done and the audience has no choice but to wait for the inevitable painting jumpscare.
9. The Strangers – He’s Right Behind You!!
The Strangers (2008) – Someone’s In the House Scene (1/10) | Movieclips
This movie is hands down one of the scariest home invasion films. I remember watching this when I was young and it made me so scared of being home alone. The way this scene has no music and you just see a masked figure standing in the darkness is so chilling. I think this scene is expertly done and really does its job of giving the viewer a spine tingling scare.
8. It Follows – The Tall Man
It Follows (2014) – The arrival of a tall man
I absolutely love the build up and tension this scene has. You are not completely sure if it is gonna be a jumpscare or everything will be alright. Spoiler alert you get jumpscared by this creepy tall dude. The acting and framing of this scene are so top notch and is the reason why this scene goes so hard.
7. Longlegs – Opening
When I saw this in theatres last year there were so many people who audibly screamed at this scene, me included. It is so strange and eerie. Nicolas Cage is heartstopingly scary. He is oddly framed and speaking in a disturbing way. Just thinking of this scene gives me shivers.
6. Alien – Dallas Get The Hell Outta There
Another alien movie has made it to the list. Alien is such an iconic movie with so many good moments. This scene is such a standout because of how expertly paced it is. We see Dallas going through a crawl space with the Alien somewhere in there with him. The audience knows something bad is about to happen but we can only wait in terror until it does. The sound of the beeper going off and Lambert warning “it’s getting closer” really makes this scene one of the heavy hitters in my opinion.
5. Gerald’s Game – The Moonlight Man
Gerald’s Game ( 2017 ) Moonlight Man Makes His Way Into Her Bedroom
OMG when I tell you the first time I saw this scene I screamed and looked away. This scene has its main character alone and handcuffed to a bed. So when night falls and there is a tall figure in the dark corner, yeah I’m good. We can only watch as the moonlight man gets closer and closer to Jessie and she is unable to run away. This scene is like if the Stranger scene and It Follows scene had a baby.
4. [REC] – What’s Hiding In The Attic
I Just saw this movie for the first time recently, and when it got to the final act I had the covers over my eyes. This movie really uses found footage and night vision to its advantage. The second the lights go out and our final characters can’t see anything this grotesque nightmare fuel walks into the frame. If you want to be scared, this movie monster will definitely do the job.
3. Oddity – The Tent
ODDITY | Official Trailer | Shudder
This underlooked movie from last year really deserves more hype. It is so chilling and eerie and has one of the scariest jumpscares I have ever seen. It includes a woman hiding in a tent with a dark presence after her. I won’t give too much away because I really think you should seek this movie out and watch it in its creepy entirety.
2. Light’s Out – Whole Film
Lights Out – Who’s There Film Challenge (2013)
I’m kinda cheating with this one but OMG I couldn’t sleep for weeks after watching this short film. It was eventually made into a full length movie but the short is so much more effective. It is so bone chilling and has such a simple premise. It is only 2 minutes so I highly suggest giving it a watch if you haven’t already.
1. Insidious – Lipstick Face Demon
Insidious Lipstick Face Demon Scene
Here is another one that kept me up for nights as a kid. It works so well because you truly don’t expect it. The scene starts with Lorrane just talking about a creepy dream she had when all of a sudden the viewer is blindsided by a Darth Maul looking demon. I think this movie is one of the greats and this scene is still so freaky 15 years later.

Well I totally agree with these choices of scary moments. I find the movie The exorcist scary when demon face pops out of nowhere , that is a heart attack moment for me. I want to check out what’s hiding in the attack 😵💫
Well Done!
